evil spirits. cassidy booth was two years old. her mother was arrested thursday after confessing to smothering her own daughter and disposing of the little body in this dumpster earlier this week at the annapolis apartment complex where they lived. late yesterday, search dogs were brought to this trash transfer facility in jesup where the overnight search turned up cassidy's body in a rail car filled with 95-tons of waste. the investigation started after a neighbor called police worried that little cassidy was missing. today, charging documents revealed that booth allegedly believed cassidy was quote, suffering from a muslim curse, placed on her by her estranged father and the girl was possessed by an evil spirit. investigators wrote that booth murdered cassidy by laying on top of her. >> the past two days, she wasn't talking to nobody. >> a close friend of booth's told wusa9 thursday that she was in disbelief. >> it freaks me out. it hurts me because i have

known her and she's a real close friend to me. it's crazy. >> boost has a record of assault and drug charges, but has never been accused of child abuse until this tragedy. in annapolis, scott broom, wusa9. now booth is the mother of at least one other child, which is being cared for by relatives. a large tree fell on the power lines in camp springs earlier today. that caused a massive power outage in parts of prince georges county. more than 44,000 people in the dark at one point. 28 schools affected. in addition, a generator overcharged in capital heights and fear of a possible explosion from that led to the evacuation of a shopping center and 20 nearby homes. >> and if the setting on a relay device had been set higher, then the super bowl would have been played uninterrupted. that according to the company that makes that device. they say the low trip setting is what caused that 34 minute outage in the superdome. >> the company installing cell

phone service in metro's underground stations and tunnels says they just can't afford to do it anymore. according to the washington examiner, power wave technology asked the court to let its stop work on metro's coverage because they filed for bankruptcy. metro was lobbying for a finish to the job by december 2015. this delay could push it back to 2016. >> that excop wanted pr murder whether he is very dead or just very disguised, he is certainly very disappeared. tonight, the sheriff says officers basically have no idea where chris dorner is right now, but they are combing a ski area where yesterday, they located his burned out pickup. >> i have a picture of her before i go in my kitchen. i say, good morning, baby. and look at her.

it's really hard. >> dorner is wanted for murdering a cop, wounding two others, and killing the daughter of an excop and her fiance. l.a.p.d. fired dorner five years ago and the department says he lied when he accused a fellow officer of beating up a suspect. dorner recently posted an online rant declaring there would be a one-man war against the cops he says did him wrong. a high school student who shot at a disabled classmate will be tried as an adult. prosecutors say robert gladden randomly shot off a shotgun at a lunch table where several students were sitting and that glass wounded 17-year-old daniel. a baltimore county -- the judge denied the motion to move the case to juvenile court. gladden is charged as an adult with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder. >> how do you summon the strength to sing happy birthday to a child you lost to a cold- blooded killer. you try your best to hold back

contractor headquartered here in fairfax county has said little if anything publicly about the debt crisis. >> the large fortune 500 companies, the industry that was most absent from that list. >> at the mid sized federal contractor in vertex, heard warner's speech as a call for action. >> much better for us to have a decision made and then allow us time to organize and respond to that. no decision whatsoever. >> tim kaine is advocating along with warner to eliminate sequestration and go back to the ordinary budget process. >> we have a democratic senate and a republican house. we are only going to fix it if democrats and republicans work on it together. >> it's not going to get fixed without recognizing that no category, including defense will get spared from additional cuts. what we have now is not only, we have the worst of both. >> in reston, peggy fox, wusa9. >> the chairman replied with this statement to our questions today. wes bush said, we urge congress and the administration to work

sources say former congressmen, jesse jackson, jr., has admitted that he violated campaign finance laws. reportedly he signed papers admitting that he used political contributions to buy a $40,000rolex, travel expenses for a friend, and furniture for his home here in washington. the son of civil rights leader, jesse jackson, resigned from congress last year siting health issues. under the terms of the deal, jackson's sentence could range from probation to prison time. who is more popular than president obama, vice president biden and house speaker, john boehner, and doesn't have a

$5 from last year. that's according from the national retail federation. men will spend twice as much as women. and the snow is already falling up in rhode island. salt trucks out on the major highways trying to make efforts to prepare the state for the effects of what is expected to be a historic nor'easter. federal forecasters predict a foot of snow expefn most of the whole northeast is expecting at least that much. meteorologist, topper shutt is here to talk about it and prepare them, i guess, for the worst. >> some good news for new york city. i think the heavy snow may miss them. able to get six inches, but maybe not a foot. and i think boston is still in the cross hairs, but the storm is a little further east than i thought it would go. some good news up there. for us, we're waiting for the wind. they will roll in here shortly. right now, we'll take a live look outside. high temperature 43 today at national. temperatures have not fallen much. 41 right now.

dew point falling a little bit and the winds are calm. the cold front is just to our west. that rolls through, we'll pick up some winds. all right, temperature wise, upper 30s, low 40s. 42 in reston. 40 in fairfax, but 38 in bethesda. 38 also in rockville. 37 out toward latensville. 40 at andrews and 40 down toward waldorf. here's the latest radar. you can see that the back edge of the precipitation is moving eastward, away from the city. yes, the seconds this has to roll through, but it's not going to be that much snow. the system itself is further east, still we're talking a big- time snow for eastern connecticut, rhode island, and much of massachusetts. for us, some showers pushing through ahead of this frontal boundary and we could see a couple wet snow flakes mixed in a little bit later on tonight. but the main event will be wind. speaking of wind, 59-mile per hour wind gust. 39 in providence. 30 in springfield. 29 in new york and 35-mile per hour wind gust.

i think before the night is over. some showers for the commute home, just a few wet roads if you aren't home just yet. winds pick up tonight. 30 miles per hour after midnight. windy and colder on saturday. nice day to finish the weekend. milder and nice on sunday. temperatures above average. for tonight, mostly cloudy, windy and colder. shower or snow shower possible. winds northwest 15 to 30 and gusty. actually, review this for the 11:00. if the storm pulls away, our winds will not be quite as strong. 26 to about 32. by morning, a cold start. partly cloudy, windy, 20s and 30s. factor in the wind, it's going to feel like it's in the teens and twenties. by afternoon, looking at mostly sunny skies, windy and colder. windchills in the 20s all day. not quite as strong in the afternoon and temperatures again near 40. the next three days, we're looking at 9 weather alerts are green. we'll monitor monday. no worries tomorrow, very windy

in the morning. plenty of sunshine. plenty of sunshine sunday, upper 40s. a few clouds will come in late sunday ahead of this next system. and this is a mild system. so we're looking at showers, temperatures in the low 50s. no worries about winter precipitation on that one. however, tuesday is a beautiful day, by the way, back up to around 50. another system comes in. this is coming in from the south. there may be enough cold air to turn it into snow early on thursday. we still bounce back in the 30s. by next friday, we are back into the low 50s. so, some good news for the tristate area. >> some good news. >> we have a historic mail bag question for you that has to do with weather. so, the snow missed us, topper is disappointed about it. are you thankful that this major snowstorm has bypassed us and left us in peace or could you have used the snow days to get off work for a few days, enjoy some slegd or whatever you like to do? would you have been better off

the washington post was among those leading the call to the name of the team to be changed. craig from king george, virginia, who claims to be defended from native americans says wise is not very. you don't need intellect or training to be a sports writer. if you study your history, the term redskins came from the jamestown settlers to describe the native americans, my people, who had a red coating on their skin to keep flies and mosquitoes away. it's no different than being called black or white and i, for one, feel honored to have a sports team named redskin. at this point, i would have to argue yours is not the majority opinion. let's be real, naming your sports team after any living group of human beings is always kind of dicey. that's why the minnesota vikings are okay. but the north carolina -- it might be a problem. teams all over the country moved away from the native
